Ghosts in the Nursery
Ghosts in the Nursery weaves together two strands of my family iconography, the panoramic photographs taken by my great-grandmother in the Mourina suburb of pre-revolutionary St.Petersburg, and a range of older and more recent family snapshots. These images are an amalgam of personal memory and family history. The generations are brought together within the panoramas to communicate with each other and create fictional and factual narratives.
The extra-wide format is taken from contact prints of my great-grandmother's photographs from the Kodak panoramic camera of the early 1900’s. The work was shown in Thessaloniki Photosynkyria 2004 curated by John Stakathos. Also shown at New York University Uneasy Spaces curated by Liz Wells 2006. See links for further details.
